GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Payroll Specialist performs a variety of professional and technical duties to process payroll and leave transactions and uses automated processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform all facets of processing payroll, including compliance with federal, state, and local tax rules and internal policies affecting gross to net computations
- Perform independent planning and preparation to ensure mission is accomplished within set time frames with respect to processing deadlines and system constraints
- Compile payroll data for garnishments, annual and personal leave, and insurance and retirement deductions, to include 403b accounts
- Contact various department supervisors for any missed payroll information
- Compile internal management reports from payroll system software
- Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies
- Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to troubleshoot, design process improvements, and analyze data
- Proficiency with systems to support payroll processes, data entry, and use of technical tools to assess data integrity
- Knowledge of school division policies, principles, and concepts common to a payroll operation
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associateβs degree in business, accounting or related subject
- Five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience using multiple systems and tools to accomplish large volume payroll processing
