DENSS supports approximately 130 Military Treatment Facilities worldwide, 30 are Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS), of which 50 are inpatient facilities on a 24/7 schedule. There are approximately 19 regional data centers referred to as Medical Application Access Gateways (MAAG’s) as well as local data centers located within each MTF. There are approximately 200 Geographically Separated Units (GSU’s) operating as remote clinics of the parent MTFs located on other bases that are sometimes in other states or countries. Additionally, each MTF will have a number of outlying buildings supporting healthcare operations on each base that range from health, dental, and specialty services. There are approximately 10,000+ LAN, WLAN, and Data Center elements in the enterprise as well as 30,000+ WLAN Access Points. The DHA tool for management is Micro Focus Network Automation, and CheckMK for monitoring. Solarwinds has been procured to replace them and is in the process of being deployed.

DENSS is responsible for life cycling LAN, WLAN, and Data Center electronics to meet DoD requirements. All electronics are fully or partially replaced on an average 3-to-5-year lifecycle meaning on average there are 30-50 active projects going on per year.
